At Better Parenting University, we are often asked, why should parents take an online seminar instead of reading a book from the same parenting expert or another parenting expert that also writes about the parenting issue at hand. Essentially:
Why an online parenting seminar vs. one of the many parenting books?
Let’s first consider some facts from the publishing industry:
58% of the US adult population never reads another book after high school.
42% of college graduates never read another book.
80% of US families did not buy or read a book last year.
70% of US adults have not been in a bookstore in the last five years.
57% of new books are not read to completion.
Most readers do not get past page 18 in a book they have purchased.
Now, these stats are bit outdated, but I can only imagine that things have gotten worse and not better since 2002 when some of these stats were gathered.
What this tells me, is that despite the enormous success of Amazon.com, many parents are not turning to books for the answers to the challenges they face within their family. So where do parents turn for help?
It’s become natural that when anybody needs answers, they turn to the web…”Let’s Google it” So, it makes sense that parents search the Internet for information on parenting topics and issues. What you find is a mixed result of parenting expertise, mommy and daddy blogs, news, medical information and whatever else has shown up in the Google search. The problem is, the information can be overwhelming, and often contradictory or not very inciteful. When researching a product, a self directed web search can be great. When researching what to do when your son comes home from a party, drunk….again….then you may need a little more help. Help, that may be found in books, but as the numbers show, most people don’t take the time to read, let alone buy a book or visit the local library.
Better Parenting University exists to provide that help. Our online parenting seminars not only provide information, they provide practical parenting strategies and tactics to deal with the issues parents and families are facing and most importantly, our online seminars are presented by leading parenting experts. This means you not only receive the facts, you receive the personal learning experience that comes from interacting with real people - people who can help solve your family issues.
