I came across this quote in regards to a posting by a girl who is trying “to fix her obesity problem” at ProgressiveU:

yes parents are big blame to the obesity. i blame my parents. they could of told me NO to each cookie I ate before dinner and told me to eat something healthy instead of mcdonalds.

This comment is consistent with what we have heard from the children and teens we have interviewed while creating the online parenting seminar: Childhood Obesity: Helping Your Family and Child Gain Control

Obesity in a child, is never just the child’s problem. It is a family problem. Obesity is not just a weight issue. It is a complex problem that involves more than just exercise and nutrition. The environment that a family creates in their own home, has a direct impact on a child’s weight.

This girl clearly blames her parents for her obesity: a feeling that is all too common amongst obese children. If you are a parent of an overweight or obese child, what are you doing to help your child?
